On August 12th, 2019, One Health Foundation accompanied Red Cross Vietnam to support and visit the people in Dong Nai province damaged by floods.

According to Mr. Tran Dinh Minh – Deputy Head of the Disaster Prevention and Control Steering Committee of Dong Nai Province, the damage of property to the people was estimated at hundreds of billions of dong. Despite urgently deploying, organizing to respond to incidents, but with the speed and power of floods and rainfall, the authorities have just promptly moved and evacuated people to protect their lives.

Mr. Nguyen Huynh Dang Khoa of One Health Foundation supported 50 million VND and hoped that it could share the burden of the life of people in Dong Nai province.

One Health Foundation and all donors supported 121 million VND for 144 families of 5 commune: 5 families at Nam Cat Tien and Nui Tuong commune – Tan Phu District; 94 families at Ngoc Dinh, Thanh Son, and Phu Nam commune – Dinh Quan District. There are 50 million in cash, 100 cartons of food worth 63,5 million VND and 20 water purifiers worth 7.4 million VND.

Before the flood night, combined with heavy rain, 9 communes were heavily flooded. Prolonged heavy rainfall on the upstream river and an incident at the Dak Kar hydroelectric dam have made the flood situation worse, even though on the night of August 8, 2019, the Dong Nai 5 hydroelectric dam hastily released floodwaters to avoid flooding. dam breakage. This causes the water level downstream to rise, causing widespread heavy flooding in 9 communes of Tan Phu and Dinh Quan districts.

Mr. Nguyen The Bao (Hamlet 4, Nam Cat Tien Commune, Tan Phu District, Dong Nai Province) responded to Reporter Le Lam and said: "There has been a flood like this 10 years ago, not last year. there are any. Some houses take the initiative, some houses, in order to protect their property, accept the situation of living with floods until mobilization and militia come to mobilize before they will relocate."

With this flood situation, Tan Phu district had to relocate 1,200 households and Dinh Quan district 900 households in riverside communes.

Statistics on property damage in both districts amounted to hundreds of billions of dong. Specifically: Tan Phu district was 50% flooded, 50 fish rafts floated; Dinh Quan district flooded 3 communes, 750 tons of fish died, 8 fish rafts and 1 sand ferry floated. In addition, it is estimated that the area of people's flooded crops is nearly 3,000 hectares.

Ms. Hoa Thi Thuong, who lives in Thanh Son commune, Dinh Quan district, Dong Nai, said: "The flood at night caused the raft to break, sink, and fish died due to lack of oxygen. Now I can only pray to God for the water to recede, but I don't know what to do."

Some local people said this flood caused two people to die. Among them: Mr. Pham Van Lam was swept away by the flood and Mr. Nguyen Duc Ngoc Tien was electrocuted to death while repairing electricity due to flood water.

In addition, according to statistics from the Ta Lai hydrological station, this is a flood that is only 6 cm away from the historic flood level of 1987.

Updated information: Currently, about 500 households have relocated to avoid floods along the La Nga River area and returned to clean their houses and continue their daily lives.

The OneHealth Foundation Charity Fund is still accepting monetary contributions as well as being ready to provide more information to sponsors to help people overcome this rare natural disaster.
