Many veterans often jokingly say:
“At this age, getting a little sick is normal.”
Because of that mindset, many people choose to endure minor pain or unusual signs from their bodies instead of taking the time to get regular health check-ups. But in reality, some diseases can silently develop for years and are only discovered when it is already too late.
That is also the reason why the program to provide 50 prostate cancer screening packages for members of the Go Vap Ward Veterans Association was organized — not only to support health check-ups, but also as a gentle reminder that the health of elderly people deserves timely care and attention.
The program was made possible through the collaboration of OneHealth Foundation, Hong Duc III General Hospital, local authorities, the Go Vap Ward Veterans Association, and MBV Bank as the co-sponsor of this meaningful activity.
The event took place in a warm and simple atmosphere. There were no extravagant ceremonies or lengthy speeches, yet it brought a genuine sense of care and connection. Smiles, handshakes, and everyday conversations were shared between the veterans and the organizing team throughout the program.
For younger generations, regular health check-ups may already be a familiar habit. However, for many elderly people, especially veterans, they often prioritize their families, work, and children before thinking about themselves. Sometimes, a program like this is enough to remind them that they are still cared for and appreciated.
Prostate cancer is one of the most common diseases among older men. What makes it concerning is that it often develops silently without clear symptoms in its early stages. Therefore, early screening plays an important role in timely detection and significantly improves the chances of effective treatment.
Perhaps the most meaningful part of the program was not simply the number of screening packages provided, but the fact that it encouraged many people to pay more attention to their own health — something they had often overlooked because they believed they were still “healthy enough.”
Behind each screening package is not only a medical check-up, but also peace of mind for families, children, and the veterans themselves. After all, everyone hopes their loved ones can stay healthy and spend more precious time together.
Through this activity, OneHealth Foundation, Hong Duc III General Hospital, and MBV Bank hope to spread greater awareness about proactive healthcare, especially for the elderly. Rather than waiting until the body sends warning signs, taking care of one’s health should begin with the smallest actions today.
Because in the end, health will always be one of the most valuable things in life. And sometimes, the most meaningful form of care is simply having someone remind you to get a health check-up at the right time.
